Chapter 5
Leah’s POV
Those eyes…those cold, heartless eyes that no longer hold a single trace of humanity and human emotion within them.
But how?
How does he know I’m here? Its been years since then hasn’t it?
WHY??
Haven’t you already taken what you wanted? Haven’t I paid my price? What more do I owe you? What more do I have to give? Haven’t you already taken everything that was mine? What more do you want?
Sadness, hatred…all those emotions were flowing through my body at an insanely high intensity.
Heh, guess that’s what they call nostalgia.
Suddenly…it struck me…I’m tired of this…so tired…I no longer want any part of this…I’ve lost everything and I’m not about to let you take any more.
As if they suddenly had a life of their own, my hands lifted themselves up from the ground and reached for his coat’s lapel.
Slowly but forcefully, I pull him down to within centimeters of my face.
“This time, you die punk.”
With all my strength focused on my hands, I lifted him up slightly and flung him into the brick wall on my far left.
I for one knew that THAT wasn’t enough to finish him off.
With that I got up and arranged myself into a defensive pose.

Mori’s POV
So…they’re emerald…eh?
For some odd reason…she looks…vengeful
And I swear I saw something flitting pass her eyes
I blink in surprise at the intensity of her emotion.
I looked back at her once again…hoping to find out more, only to find her bangs casting a shadow upon her eyes.
I feel a cold chill run down my spine.
What is this?
Suddenly, I feel a forceful tug on my coat lapel. I looked down only to find her hands gripping my collar…slowly but forcefully, she pulled me so close, that I could hear her heavy breathing. It was then that it suddenly struck me…the position that we were in was a little…awkward.
I mean…the first thing you’d expect to see once you wake up is normally the sight of your ceiling or the sky in this case, not someone looking straight at you, their faces barely an inch away…I’d even add some plus points for looking like I’m advancing on her.
I was about to apologize for what seems like bad intentions on my part, but stopped short when she looked up at me. I swear I saw a glint of light pass through her eyes…just like somebody I know…
“ This time, you die punk,” she said viciously before she flung me to my right. I could tell that she exerted quite the amount of strength on this move…but still…I’m impressed.
I wonder if she suffers from high blood pressure like Kyouya? I mean, that would explain the I-So-Want-You-To-Die-So-Die-Now look on her face, and not to forget, the crème de la crème of the situation..the part where she flings me.
She’s the first person other than Mitsukuni of course, who’ve ever been able to do this to me.
Who would’ve thought that this would happen? That I, Takashi Morinozuka, Japan’s No.1 Kendo practitioner could be defeated by a mere girl? Now THAT’S not what you see everyday…well for me at least...
Hmm, speaking of which…WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING THINKING OF THE IMPOSSIBLE –WHICH SOMEHOW BY A SUDDEN TWIST OF FATE BECAME POSSIBLE- WHEN IM 2 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND FLYING ACROSS THE SCHOOL GARDENTOWARDS THAT LARGE AND HEFTY LOOKING BRICK WALL?!?!
Wait…brick…wa-?
I hit the wall like…a sack of bricks. And GOD did that hurt. I would’ve yelled out loud but as usual…I kept the pain to myself.
After all…I am THE Takashi Morinozuka. And THAT simply does not suit my personality.
I slowly pick myself up from the ground and arrange myself in a half sitting half lying position, making sure that I didn’t break anything from that little I-hit-the-bloody-BRICK-wall incident. Oh and by the way, let me make this crystal clear…I. AM. HUMAN. !!!!!!!!!!!!!
After making sure that I was still in one piece, (HALLELUJAH!!) I take my time getting up. I looked around…eyes scanning the area for any sight of her.
She was still by the tree, only thing is she finally got up and is currently positioned in a defensive pose. Hands balled up in fists positioned right in front of her and her legs slightly parted and to sum it all up…she’s put on a poker face…
Is it just me or is that so called poker face…cute?
Nah, must’ve been all that sugar that I’ve been taking. Plus, I’m the only one here besides her. Note to self, next time Mitsukuni offers you cake…just turn the offer down politely.
Her fists tighten. Seems like she’s someone who doesn’t trust people easily. I wonder how I came to that conclusion?
“Excuse me miss, I’m sorry but I didn’t mean to give you a scare earlier,” I said, putting on my usual stoic face. But on the inside… PLEASE IM SORRY I DIDN’T MEAN TO DO THAT, ITS JUST I WASN’T MYSELF EARLIER…OH I KNEW I SOULDN’T HAVE TAKEN THAT STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE!!! SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~
What came next was highly unexpected. It was as if my prayers were suddenly answered…
A look of shock crossed her face. It was as if she just woke up from a dream…a horrible nightmare. She dropped her defensive pose and stood gaping at me.
But what happened next was TRULY the real deal…
‘I’M SO SORRY!!! I DIDN’T MEAN TO DO THAT TO YOU. ARE YOU HURT?
DO YOU NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL? OH GOD, IF AUNT ELLIE EVER FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS I’D FIND MYSLF BEING SHISHKEBABBED IN NO MORE THAN A MINUTE! PLEASE SAY YOU’RE ALRIGHT!” she suddenly shot. She spoke so fast that I had difficulty keeping up with her with my mediocre command of the English language. When I finally comprehended, I steadily faded into what could only be-a state of shock. Wow , who knew someone so murderous a moment ago could take a 180 degree turn and panic the next…now THAT was highly unexpected.
I suddenly feel myself being shaken…HARD!!! Looking down, I saw her gripping my arms, repeatedly asking me if I’m alright.
Wait…I thought she was all the way there just a moment ago…how’d she manage to run all the way here in just a minute? Oh forget about it…better that than risk getting a headache thinking bout it later.
“I’m alright. No injuries,” I replied.
She stopped her life threatening momentum to look at me.
“ Thank goodness. Are you really sure?” she asked once again, eyes narrowing in suspicion.
“Yea,” I was tempted to tell her the truth about my physical state just to see her panic again. Who could blame me? She was cute when she was frantic.
A look of relief crossed her features as she released me, hands dropping to her sides, shoulders relaxing.
“ Well then, I’m glad. Really sorry bout earlier though. Its just…I just mistook you for someone else…is all,” she said suddenly switching to Japanese.
Wow, her Japanese is pretty impressive for a foreigner. No sign of any other accents.
She smiled up at me. I…grinned? What on earth is wrong with me? I swear…if its to blame its, all that sugar that I’ve been wolfing down lately.
“ By the way, I’m Leah. Leah Quinn. You are?”
“Morinozuka. Morinozuka Takashi,” I replied.
“ Well fancy meeting you Mr.Morinozuka,”
“Call me Mori,” I said. Why won’t this smile go away?
“ Mori then,” her smile grew bigger.
Her gaze shifted from me to her watch. At that, her eyes widened.
“Dear me, look at the time! I really must get going or I’ll be late. Didn’t know that I dozed of for that long a time. Sorry to be a bother but can you point me the way out? I’ve been trying to find my way out but…ehehehe I kinda failed at the attempt,” she seemed rather sheepish.
I mentally laughed at her remark.
‘Go straight from here and you’ll see a large fountain up ahead. The entrance is just opposite the fountain,” I instructed.
She smiled once again.
“Thanks.”
I watched her figure as she walked off…just as she was about to turn round the corner, she turned around and called out to me.
“Hey, Mori?!”
“Yea?”
“See ya around,”
With one last smile and a wave she continued her journey.
“Interesting.”
That said, I continued my walk to the Third Music Room. Hope I’m not too late…else Kyouya would give me ‘The Stare’. Even then, I guess you could say that my life has just gotten a whole lot more interesting.
Perhaps being late today is worth getting ‘The Stare’.
I stood in front of the large wooden doors that led to the Third Music Room, hand on the handle, smile plastered on my face…with only one thing in mind.
Strawberry Cake.

Fragments Of Time
Leah's POV
As the breezy spring wind blew past me, I felt my pace starting to slow down. Great! Today was only my second day here in Japan and look what happened? This morning, I tripped over one of my large piles of music scores (A/N : Not very organized now is she?), burnt my omelette (Ahhh...omelette *w*) and nearly forgot to give Aunt Ellie a call. Thank GOD I remembered. She would've flown down to Japan and skewer me alive if I hadn't done so. I mean the woman wasn't so keen on me - a 17 year old girl who for most of her life has lived and studied in an all-girls prep school- going off alone to a foreign country for some student exchange program. It took months of plotting and a full month of convincing but finally, I won the battle. I just had to come here, atleast once in a lifetime, because for me...there was a promise that I had to fulfill here in the land of the rising sun.
I broke off from my train of thoughts when I walked into a tree and fell square on my bottom. BOY, did that hurt. I stood up and brushed off some bits of grass from my pants, suddenly brought back to the situation at hand. I was lost in this ginormous monster called school. I mean how absurd can it get?!?! Sure they're rich, but THIS?!?!Is just plain absurd. And NO I don't remember signing up for this. I recalled that I had specifically requested for a transfer to a NORMAL public school. But nooo...they HAD to put me in one of the stuck up schools, they HAD to ignore my request. Something tells me that Aunt Ellie had something to do with this. That woman!!!! She'll get it from me in summer!!! Well, what can I do now anyways? Im already here in Japan, AND i've already signed the document that finalised my transfer to this school for the year (less I were to suddenly fall terribly ill and all that crap that is >_> scorn myself for being a healthy person!!!) in the headmaster's office which was like the rest of the school ABSURDLY LARGE IN SIZE!!!!! No offense though, the headmaster was a nice person, and if ONLY I had accepted his offer to have his assistant escort me out of this place, I wouldn't have ended up in this type of a situation in the first place. But as usual pride got the better of me. Sigh...I would consider asking someone around the place but there wasn't a single soul in sight. It was just 2.30 in the afternoon and classes were still on.
It was during times like these when I wished Scar were here, I mean the girl had more of a sense of direction than anyone else that I knew. No offense though Lizzy. But what the heck? She was thousands of miles away, back in London, enjoying the tea of the season, Orange Darjeeling together with Lizzy and Aunt Ellie, by the orangery in Wycombe Abbey. Oh how I wish I were there to enjoy itlike I always had for the past decade. I slapped myself. GET a hold of yourself Leah Quinn and FOCUS on looking for a way out of this place instead!!! As I took my first step from the tree, I felt my legs giving out.
Sigh...maybe after a short nap, plus i'll actually be able to think after that. I circled the tree looking for a comfortable spot, and in the end found a nice small shady area where the roots of this lovely tree parted to form a V-shape. I settled down. A rendition of Strauss's famous Beautiful Blue Danube started to play in the back of my head as I was slowly plunged into the darkeness. When my eyes opened, I found myself in THAT place. That all too familiar place. I let my eyes wander around.
Suddenly, I caught sight of her. A girl who looks exactly like me. The only difference were our ages and the way we wore our hair. Mine was long and wavy, while she wore hers in a fashionable bob. I was 17 she was 5. The day was still young and the sun was still high in the sky.
She was trotting down a path that was carved through the thick and rich ground of a meadow accompanied by her parents on either side. As they slowly made their way to the end of the path, happily chatting away without a single care in the world, I felt peacefull even if it was for that one brief moment before being shattered into pieces by what was going to happen next. The sound of a gun-shot was heard. And then it happened.
A man dressed completely in black with a gun in hand, appeared from the other side of the meadow and came running down at high speed, mercillesly tredding upon the ground and trampling along some innocent flowers in the process. The man in black pointed the gun in the woman's direction and started firing. The little girl's father caught sight of it and in one quick motion pushed his daughter and wife out of the way. The bullet dashed through the air and went straight through the man's right arm. He let out a yelp of pain. The man in black fired another round of shots, this time one of the bullets went straight and penetrated the skull of the other man.
With that shot, the man fell down and suddenly, all traces of life evaporated from his eyes. The little girl looked back and let out a cry of horror, but her mother picked her up and ran as fast as she could. But alas, she failled. The man in black fired a bullet that went through the woman's heart. As she dropped down, she held her precious daughter tight to her, gave her one last squeeze, muttered a few words that were only audible to her and her daughter and with that, her heart stopped beating.
The little girl was in utter shock. A few moments passed before she loosened herself from her mother's embrace and stood to fully face her mother. She called out to her mother. No response. She started to shake her mother's cold lifeless body while calling out to her hoping that she'd respond but to no avail. The man in black slowly made his way across the meadowfrom the other side, all the while a smile of pure evil was etched on his face. When he arrived at the spot where the little girl was frantically shaking her mother, he bent down, the gun that he held was replaced with that of a small dagger that had a series of intricate designs on its handle. With that, he took the little girl's right hand and using the dagger, carved a sign on the palm of her hand. The little girl let out cries of pain as he was doing so. When he was done, he dropped the dagger to the ground. The smile on his face widened, and he muttered a few words before dissapearing with the cold breeze that blew on that day. The little girl was shocked but suddenly snapped back into reality and ignoring the immense pain on the palm of her right hand, once again began shaking and calling out to her mother even if she knew that it was useless, her precious mommy was gone forever. And then, tears of sadness started falling, running across her cheeks. The once sunny skies started to cloud up with clomps of grey clouds, and not long after it began to rain.
That day, it was as if the skies cried with her, together mourning the death of her beloved parents. An hour later, a woman from a nearby village -who was walking down the path that went through the meadows-, spotted the little girl. Drenched from head to toe, hand's on that of her mother's dead cold ones, smothered in dry blood. The woman instantly recognized the little girl and went to her aid at once. In awhile, villagers were seen crowding around the little girl.
All the while, I just stood there by the sidelines, watching as the scene slowly unfolded itself like it always does. This was not the first time I had this dream, actually it happened everytime I was at a new or foreign place. A reminder to me that no matter where I went, there was no denying the fact that what happened earlier was and forever will be a part of my past. A fragment of my memories.
Suddenly, I was engulfed by a tunnel of lights and I swore that I caught a glimpse of those cold light green eyes, that evil smile and that jagged scar that ran across the left cheek of the assasin's that murdered Them. Before I knew it, I was back in reality.
And then I saw him...

The Rose Among The Thorns
Mori's POV
And then I saw her...
Under the tree lies her peaceful form, back leaned firmly against the bark of the tree while her legs were spread out in a 'V' shape (don't get the wrong idea...she was wearing pants =p). In her arms was a package which she held tightly as if her very existance depended on it. She was sound asleep...looking very much at peace.
At first sight one could tell that she was a foreigner. Her looks just screamed foreign, but oddly enough...there among the sea of western features was a small yet noticable dash of asian heritage.
A petite and womanly frame shaped her body. She has high cheekbones, luscious full lips, rosy cheeks (irony much? o.o) and long eye lashes. Her auburn locks were let down in rich volumes, framing her almost heart-shaped face. Her skin was a lovely shade of alabaster. A very timeless look. But somehow, after observing her...there was one question that lingered in my mind.
What's the colour of her eyes?
That question kept taunting me while I raked through my brain for the possible answers. Was it the colour of the azure and seemingly endless blue sky? A warm shade of chestnut brown? Sharp and alluring golden eyes like that of a cat's?Or was it the colour of a glistening green meadow on a sunny day?
The soft and breezy wind that blew on this fine day catapulted me back to reality. Suddenly, realisation dawned on me like a hard slap across the face.
Our faces were only mere inches apart. We were so close, to the point that I could even hear her slow and rhythmic breathing. A lock of her hair fell out of place and my hand automatically moved up to claim that lock, to return it back to place. Who knew that something so minor would tempt me so much?
As I was doing so, her eyes suddenly fluttered open...revealing the long awaited answer, the colour of her eyes that LITERALLY took my breath away and made her the rose among the thorns. Emerald. There was only one word that could be used to describe her...
Perfection...

Dance of The Cherry Blossoms
Mori's POV
As I was strolling along the stone walkway towards the garden that leads to the building where the Third Music Room lies...I couldn't help but let out a loud sigh of relief. So far...today has just been busy and tiring. Its not exactly the brightest idea to dart back and forth along the school hallways helping the teachers ...well if it had been a normal public school I wouldn't have minded it so much but to do so in THIS GARGANTUIN named Ouran...one must really be out of their mind. I know that people think im inexhaustible but DUDE!!! Im still human and we all know that humans will eventually tire out no matter how strong you are. Well Takashi, now you can take this brief moment to enjoy this stroll before being bombarded by Mitsukuni and that large horde of obsessive and compulsive customers. (Don't they ever get tired of us???)
As I was walking, something caught my eye. A Cherry Blossom Tree. My most favourite spot in Ouran...believe it or not this is the only original cherry blossom tree that you'd ever find in Ouran (the rest are imported >_>). Take it from someone who's been walking through this familiar route for the past 10 years.
I came across this tree when I was running away...away from something that hurt both mind and soul. As you've guessed, back then I wasn't the person that Im like now...I was just Takashi Morinozuka...the kid who was somehow invisible among the students in class, the kid who could almost become one with the wall, the quiet and somber one. One would think ,why this tree? Why not any other tree? Their all the same aren't they? Well...when I first found this tree, it seemed to reach out to me.
Ever since then I would spend all my spare time thare, taking a nap, sorting out problems, watching the cherry blossoms dance in spring and what not. For me, that tree held important memories and some traces of warmth. I gazed down at my watch, well its still early...it wouldn't hurt to actually spend some time here now wouldn't it? I mean Mitsukuni and the club could wait...its only a few minutes. Clearing out the conflicts in my mind, I headed towards the tree. A smile found its way to my face. That tree had always been the same...unfazed by the cruelties of time. As I lay the palm of my hand on its surface, run my fingers across its rough yet suprisingly warm bark, I suddenly felt those marks that were oh so familiar to me. As memories of that time flooded my mind...I was once again plunged into my thoughts.
Its been years since that time...the time when I made my undying promise. A promise to always try my best no matter what life throws at me, to always stand up again no matter how many times I fall, to secure a smile no matter how much sadness there was, to go forth with my head high never dwelling on the past events too much and to finally...grab hold of my dreams so that I will never be lost. On that very day in spring, under the tree...the promise was sealled. The madly blooming cherry blossoms became my witness and only the soft breezy spring wind would carry my promise to Him.From that day forth, everytime the wind blows in spring, it would become my reminder of the promise I made.Through all the self-doubt, uncertainties and sadness.A reminder that I had a promise to keep. A promise to the cherry blossoms . From that promise came many more and now, here I am today...standing tall and proud, satisfied with how the person I became..
As I circled the tree, I suddenly tripped over something, or in this case...Someone. I was back on my feet in a moment, this being the result of my intense martial arts training over the years.
And then I saw her...

Beyond The Horizon...
PROLOGUE
As both of them gazed out into the setting sun, hand in hand, with smiles on their faces memories of a bittersweet past danced in their minds. The dance of memories came to a finale and ended on that one small but fateful shard of memory. Many seasons had come and gone ever since that time.
Mori and Leah...who knew the two would actually end up together after all the conflicts and madness that they went through. Why, one would just ponder on that thought. Think about it...complete opposites that were united in matrimony after travelling the long and seemingly endless tunnel of darkness. To take a chance and enter into a tunnel of darkness and traps and to emerge at the end of it...where the light shines brightest, victorious, is indeed an achievement. A chapter of the Book of Life has just been completed.
But for all our dear readers, I shall turn back the pages to the start of that particular chapter. Back to when it all began with that fateful meeting under the cherry blossom trees in early spring...
